About the race
The 16th annual Mizuno Midsummer 5 km is organized as a hybrid event with both in person and virtual options on July 10, 2027. The in person portion uses Goldbar Park as its venue.
All registered participants receive a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider shoes in specified sizes (ladies sizes 6 to 11 and mens sizes 8 to 12) and a pair of GoodR sunglasses, with a stated retail value above $200. Registration for 2027 is capped at 800 participants in total, with the in person field limited to 400.
Prizes are awarded by age group with categories U20, 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 plus; top three finishers in each age group receive prizes from Mizuno. The in person event also offers cash prizes of $200, $100 and $50 for the fastest three open runners and for the fastest three women.
Virtual entrants who want to be eligible for age group prizes must record their run with a GPS tracker and submit GPS tracking as proof of their finish time. Virtual participants may submit multiple 5 km attempts between July 8 and July 11; the fastest time will be taken as the official entry. In person times are submitted by the event timers.
Proceeds support the Concordia Thunder cross country and indoor track teams and other events across Alberta. Participants will be sent a Google Form for result submission and an archive of past results is available for years 2013 through 2026. Event records are 17:11 for the ladies race in 2014 and 14:49 for the men in 2020. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
